Why did I start Easy Library?

From EasyLib.com's founder, Vani Mahesh

EasyLib.com was started in 2001, but the desire to own a library was conceived in my mind when I was all of, may be, Twelve. I was profusely jealous of my local librarian who sat at his desk all day and read books. Well, that's what it looked like at least! Then again, every reader dreams of owning a bookstore or a library but only a lucky few like us actually get one.

I lived in the US for a few years in the nineties. That is when this amazing technology called the Internet took shape. Late nineties saw an outburst of online stores and I was hooked. With a full-time job and an infant in tow, shopping online and getting them door delivered simply felt divine. That love for the Internet coupled with my obsession for books made EasyLib happen. Also, I was completely sold on the literary atmosphere the libraries in the US offered and I wanted to emulate it in EasyLib. And I did, only thanks to a whole of excellent people who are writers, storytellers, theater artists and such. They have taken the time and effort to be a part of the library's literary activities. We now regularly have book readings, discussions, book clubs, story sessions - a wide variety of activities happening at the EasyLib premises.

Now coming to the website itself, in India we don't have comprehensive bestseller lists like the New York Times or the Publishers Weekly ones. Every bookstore here puts out its own list but they are all largely different from one another. Magazines and Newspapers have their bestseller lists compiled based on bookstore sales but they are seldom available online. So how do you find out what books are being read in India? Trust me, it is not easy. Takes a lot of effort and time. That is why we started sharing our research with readers. The information we present at the EasyLib website is much appreciated by bibliophiles. Award winners, news makers, bestsellers - we try to make a book lover's time well spent at our website. And yes, we recommend books which are sure-fire good reads.

Another USP, if I can so about our site is, we have made navigating and browsing as easy as possible ,especially the children's books, we have meticulously categorized by age and interests and have provided ample helpful links that makes navigation a pleasure. Hope you feel so too.

Last, but certainly not the least, we are proud of our collection of books. They are hand-picked and eclectic. We put in a lot of thought into buying books. Magazine, reviews, online reviews, reader recommendations - our sources are vast.Hope you enjoy the books, the website and our services. Please do tell us what you think.
